The Giant Drum is probably the first of its kind in the UK - and has proved a massive hit because it can involve a whole group at a time

Measuring 44 inches (1.10 metres) in diameter it has been successfully used by community groups, schools and nurseries.

The drum encourages team work and helps to improve co-ordination and communication skills - it can be used for musical group activities to teach rhythm.

It is also an excellent resource for adults and children with learning disabilities and physical disabilities or visual impairment.

The Giant Drum can be hired for community festivals or events - and it could be an effective staff training tool, helping to encourage group co-operation and focus.

With a tough membrane it can't easily be damaged but is light enough to transport and can be supplied with a tough bag. It can be put on the floor or on a table and be played both inside and outside. When not in use it can even be hung on the wall.

The drum can be hired within the Bristol area and could easily be shared between schools. An information sheet with suggestions for games can also be provided for teachers.

As a new idea for the classroom, the instrument has been featured in several education magazines this year including The Times Educational Supplement (TES) Primary Music Today and Junior Education. (See press coverage)
